Meet Andre
Andre Shaw, Ed.S., M.Ed., M.A., is an educator and higher education faculty member with experience in special education, and curriculum development. Andre is completing a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Special Education with a concentration in Curriculum and Instruction at the American College of Education. Andre’s dissertation is in progress with a planned completion date of June 2027.
Andre holds an Education Specialist (Ed.S.) in Special Education, a Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Curriculum and Instruction, and a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Special Education and Teaching. Andre also earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Sports Recreation Management from Roosevelt University. Andre completed the Certificate in Principal Preparation, which provides administrative credentials for leadership roles. Andre is currently working on the Director of Special Education endorsement at the University of St. Francis.
Andre holds a Professional Educator License (PEL) issued by the Illinois State Board of Education. Andre’s endorsements include Learning Behavior Specialist I (LBS1), and English as a Second Language (ESL). Andre is also a certified trainer through the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI). In this capacity, Andre delivers professional development across Niles Township High Schools on trauma-informed de-escalation practices.
As higher education faculty, Andre teaches at North Park University, National Louis University, and Iona University. Andre has taught courses such as EDU 660: Foundations of Special Education, EDU 667: Responsive Teaching and Multiple Interventions, EDUC-5436: Psychological and Educational Assessment for Special Populations, and SPE 327: Assessment in Special Education. Andre’s instruction focuses on inclusive teaching, assessment, and legal frameworks that guide practice in special education.
In K–12 education, Andre serves as a Special Education Teacher and Case Manager at Niles Township High Schools. Andre writes and implements Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), monitors progress, and collaborates with families and service providers. Andre also serves as a Professional Learning Strand Leader, where he develops and facilitates training sessions for teachers and staff on the CPI model.
Andre’s professional work reflects a focus on instructional practice, assessment, and leadership in special education. In his postdoctoral studies, Andre plans to pursue an MBA in Organizational Management with the long-term goal of opening a special education school facility. Andre’s academic and professional preparation supports his current role as an educator, higher education faculty member, and trainer committed to effective and equitable learning environments.
